The Origins of Teach 1000
Now, what about this whole project that I am doing? Well, I was talking to a friend of mine one day and she was asking me about my online teaching experience. I said that it was going quite well and that so far, I had taught about 250 classes on EduFire and 83 classes on WiZiQ. She almost flipped out!
Her: "Wow! Haven't you been on the site for about a year?"
Me: "Yes."
Her: "And, you've only taught that many classes in a whole year or longer?!"
Me: "Yes. What is your point?"
Her: "Well, I'm just saying that if it was me who was teaching on there, then I would have probably had at least 1,000 by now."
Me: "Oh, really? You think it's that easy. You have no idea what preparation and diligence that you have to go through in order to teach online."
Her: (shrugs) "Please! You just can't do it!"
Me: "Uh, you wanna bet?"
Her: "OK. How about this? You teach 1,000 classes all online in one year. I wanna see if you can actually do it. We'll set up some ground rules for it and we'll see how you do. Deal?"
Me: (thinks) "Deal."
The Rules of Teach 1000
1) I must have at least 1 student in every class that I do.
2) All classes must be either on EduFire, WiZiQ, or any other online platform.
3) Each class must be at least 30 minutes long.
4) Each class must be on a different topic, but can be in the same subject. For example, I can teach a world history course, but I have to have a different topic in each lesson.
